Remembering Anne Martin

Remembering Anne Martin

The Junior League of Calgary remembers Anne Martin, Emeritus Member.

Anne joined the League in 1962.  With a love for community and giving, Anne volunteered many years in a variety of roles, including treasurer, volunteering in the thrift store and helping with babies at Providence Creche.  As with many other members, she volunteered at the Children’s Hospital taking notes for doctors as they worked with children with prosthetics that needed to be changed as the children grew.  Anne worked with puppet shows at the Allied Arts Centre, exhibits at the Glenbow museum and with Children’s Theatre, performing plays such as “Little Red Riding Hood” for school classes.

For our Emeritus Tea, Anne shared: “Training taught you to be a leader, as well as a follower – how to come together and get things done.”  Friendships that developed through the League kept her connected to the organization.

Anne’s leadership skills were also utilized in the community – as a docent at the Glenbow Museum, on the board of the Calgary Regional Arts Foundation and as Treasurer at the Riverside Villa – an alcoholic recovery centre for women (now called Aventa).
