About

About

The Junior League of Calgary (JLC) is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Since 1950, our purpose has been exclusively educational and charitable.

What We Do

Voluntarism by the Junior League of Calgary creates lasting impact in our issue area – youth at risk. The JLC promotes voluntarism through direct service, indirect service, capacity building, and advocacy.

Developing the potential of women is also part of the JLC mission. Each member offers skills that are invaluable to both the JLC and to our community. To further develop the potential of our members to serve as community leaders and trained volunteers for the JLC, the JLC provides internal and external training opportunities.

The JLC improves our community by combining the personal and professional experience of trained volunteers with financial resources to address unmet community needs. The JLC researches community needs within our issue area – youth at risk – and collaborates with community partners serving youth at risk to develop and deliver programming to address unmet critical needs.

The JLC raises funds to develop and support its programs, whether stand-alone or in collaboration with community partners, and to maintain its operation. Funding is secured by member dues, donations, investments, casino events, and facility rentals.

Who We Are

The Junior League of Calgary reaches out to all women who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. Demographics of the Junior League of Calgary membership are as varied as the talents of our individual members. JLC members engage in public, private, and voluntary sector employment as well as at-home pursuits. Because membership in the Junior League attracts women in various life stages, members may be as young as the minimum 18-year age requirement or may be as young as 80+. The Junior League of Calgary members include Canadians and women of other nationalities.

The common denominator of our diverse membership is our shared interest in voluntarism and the desire to serve as women building better communities. Our member diversity contributes to the organizational dynamic, with each member contributing her own unique skills and life experiences to our common goals.

The JLC is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, an organization of more than 125,000 women in 295 Junior Leagues in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States who make a difference in their communities through their volunteer efforts. The JLC is one of two Leagues in Canada.
