Remembering Susan Galloway

Remembering Susan Galloway

The Junior League of Calgary remembers Susan Galloway, Emeritus Member.  Susan joined the Junior League of Calgary in 1958 to meet friends, give back to the community and break up the daily routine. She had three babies at home at the time and went on to have another, ultimately raising four beautiful daughters.

Susan was involved with the Next-to-New Shop, took notes for the doctors at the Children’s Hospital during the polio outbreak, but she most fondly remembered the Children’s Theatre and how it opened the eyes of the children, letting them explore their imagination. She remembered playing the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz and finding out she was pregnant with her fourth child during a production of The Fisherman when her fish tail belt started to get tight!  Through the League and Children’s Theatre, Susan made lifelong friends, some of whom she played bridge with for many years.  She believed that the Junior League of Calgary was a wonderful way to make friends while giving back to the community.

Susan was a compassionate and generous soul, volunteering with a variety of organizations including Inn from the Cold, The Mustard Seed, The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Guild, and Brownies. She nurtured lifelong relationships with a diverse group of friends and a large extended family, enjoyed playing golf and bridge, skiing, traveling, and hosting house parties and lively holiday meals.  Our condolences to her family.
